------------------------------------------------------------------ So give me reason to prove me wrong, To wash this memory clean Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes-------------------------------------------------------------------
Starlight Luna Mae Harvey... She was stuck with that name for ever, or at least until she was 18 and could change her name to 'Star' instead of 'Starlight' like her hippie mother had named her. As much as she liked her name, and loved her mother, she couldn't stand to live with that name forever, it would look ... well, crazy on a collage application. Even thought Star is only a sophomore in high school, she's still freaked out about collage, not thanks to her father, who happens to be a big nerd. She would hate to have to go through life known as the hippie, vegetarian, actor chick with a name that is so crazy, Starlight Luna Mae Harvey. 'What was my mother thinking!' She wondered, walking toward her favorite store, Shop Till You Drop.
Starlight looked around, she didn't see any one she knew, in fact, she saw barley any one, it was freaky, normally there were people every where, right? The Australian girl wasn't used to being here, but used to Sydney, but, she could get used to it here. She sighed, and looked around once more before heading into the store. She needed some knew clothes, and since her father had gotten a new job, and it paid really well, they had plenty of extra money so Star could buy the extra clothes that she needed and wanted. She looked down at what she was wearing right at the moment, and felt out of place in the store, but realized that her own sense of style was just that, made her out of place. She was wearing a pair of pink ballet shoes, the ones that she had worn in Australia when she was in ballet classes, that she had stopped taking when they moved. She also had on a white and black striped cami, with a blue of the should top, and a pleated skirt.

Rachel was the one who always wanted to go shopping, not that she could afford she was a regular visitor to the local clothes shop 'Shop Till You Drop' in town, yes a regular visitor not a regular customer. Today however she was going to be a customer, she'd just been given a bit of money by her Gran and she'd told her to spend it on something that she really wanted, what did every girl want, more clothes and shoes so Rachel was basically skipping along the road to the shop, she'd had her eye on this top for a couple of weeks now and was planning to buy it at the end of the month when she got her wages but now she didn't have to wait she could get it, oh how she loved her Gran.
Rachel pushed the door open and went straight over to the rail where the top had been hung for the past couple of weeks, however her smile slipped when she realised it wasn't their anymore. She slumped over to the sale rail and hoped that it would be there, her cut up jeans seemed to drag over the floor and her low cut top was riding up her belly too, it didn't bother her before but now she felt rubbish she just wanted that top, she started sorting through the rail when she felt a tap on the shoulder, she turned round to see one of the shop assistants holding her top, her smile returned to her face bigger and greater than before. Thank you so much. She screeched as she took the top from the lady and hugged her.
Rachel continued looking through the rails to see if there was anything else she wanted to buy, she heard the bell ring as the door open and she recognised a girl from the school, she looked back down at the rail wondering if she should go and talk to her or not.

Starlight looked around the store quickly at first, then heard toward the first thing that caught her eye. Which happened to be very bright. Looking at all the different clothes, Star smiled, it was like she w as back home, shopping with Nina and Emma, except, there was no Nina and Emma, just herself today, which was even weirder. Since the blond girl never went shopping by herself, sometimes she'd even drag her mother along, just so she wouldn't have to be alone. But, she knew that she'd have to face the music some day. "And, whatever...." She thought, sighing, and pulling a pair of bright pink skinny jeans off the rack, glancing at the size, and finding they were hers, she held on to them. She liked colour, what could she say.
After a few more minutes, Starlight already had pink skinny jeans, a hello kitty tee shirt, a pair of short shorts, a black jacket, and a few other things. She smiled, and looked around again. She saw a girl, looking at and rack, and shrugged to her self, "Might as well make friends. If I'm lucky she goes to school with me." She muttered quietly, so only she could her it. Holding on to the clothes and pair of shoes she had found, she walked over towards the girl, and started looking, or pretending to look. "Hello." She said in her Austrailan accented voice. She almost grimaced, she wondered why she hadn't taken acting lessons, then she could cover her accent if she ever wanted to, even thought she her self couldn't hear it, she knew it was there. And she hated it at times, she got stared at a lot, even though she knew her name could have something to do with that too...

Rachel was set in was she was looking for as the memory of her fellow student being in the shop quickly faded, she needed to get some new going out clothes, nothing she had made her look good anymore, thank goodness for grandparents wanting to spoil there 'special' grandchild. She pulled out a little strapless black dress with a white studded band at the top. She smiled as she imagined herself wearing it. She then picked up a cream top with flowers along the fringe of it, lastely she she found a frilly black skirt, next thing she needed to find was shoes to go with both outfits. As she filtered throughthe vast collection of shoes she found the perfect pair of shoes that would go with both outfits, they were black material with a few bits cut out and they had nice big heels on them, she tried them on and knew they would perfect for going out that weekend. Rachel walked past a rail of jeans that were on sale and couldn't help but pick up a perfect pair of jeans that could be worn whenever she wanted. She also found two perfect pink tops, she had to get some accessories to go with her new clothes. She picked up a necklace it had flowers on and the colours ranged from black to grey so would suit both going outfits that she had brought to go out in. Rachel was still looking through clothes even though now she knew that she was all spent out, that's went she heard a voice talking to her, there was a tiny accent to the voice but Rachel never had been very good with accents. She turned to look at the person talking to her and realised that it was the girl she'd recognised as earlier as being someone from school. Hello having fun looking at the clothes. Rachel asked, she was infact happy that the girl had talked to her, she'd wanted to speak earlier but felt a little to shy. Clothes brought: Here

Starlight smiled a tiny bit at the girl, and nodded. "Very much so." She said, knowing that what ever she said would get her looks. She talked like... well, someone from the 19th century instead of a normal teen aged girl. But, whatever, that was how her mother had talked a lot around the house, so she picked up on it a lot, even though it was normally only when she was nervous, other times she tended to talk like a normal, or semi-normal teen aged girl. "I'm Starlight Harvey." She said, shifting the clothes around on to one arm to hold out her hand, so she could shake the other girls hand. She had never been on to understand American things some times, she was very... well, she stood out a lot, since she could never fit in with her classmates well, she was the Australian girl in a class of Americans.
Starlight knew she was either going to get a 'Your names Starlight?' or 'That's a very... interresitng name.' or, on one or two rare occasions 'Oh, I like your name. I'm (Name here)'. But mostly the second or first one. People tended to think that she was a hippie, which she sort of was, thanks to her mother. Star, as much as she was one not to care about what others said or thought about her, was sure that she needed a good first impression if she was going to make some friends at this school, she really needed to, badly. Like.. really badly, she would hate to be the quiet ballet-dancing, sort-of-acting, hippie-vegtarian girl from 'down under'. She hated being stereotyped as the girl from 'down under' or a hippie or the loner of her old friends that she had to leave behind.

Rachel was sifting through the clothes, she picked out a top looked at it and placed it back, it wasn't something she could wear everyday that she now needed to get, things she could wear everyday, not that right at this moment she could actually afford it, today anyway. I see some of them have taken your eye. She beamed at the girl as she looked at the clothes she had slung over her arm. She looked at her clothes and saw that they were very different in what they wore. Rachel heard the girl mention her name, Starlight, she recognised the name but wasn't sure why she did, she thought really hard then it came to her, Starlight was the name of the girl she was going to be sharing her dorm with. Hello Starlight, nice to meet you I'm Rachel Humes. Yes the surname was rather a little weird but probably not as bad as Starlight thought her name was, but then again she may be us to her name by now.
Rachel stood looking around the shop waiting for something to happen, she wasn't sure of what to do next, she actrually wanted to stay and talk to Starlight so maybe she could ask her if she wanted to grab a drink or something. Starlight I was just wondering if when you'd choose all your clothes if you wanted to go for a drink or something. She paused trying to think of a good enough reason for Starlight to agree going for a drink with her. I noticed that we will be sharing a dorm and I think maybe we should get to know each other a little more. That was it, that was the idea she came up with and she was going to stick with it. She did want to make friends from the school and not be a loner walking around on her own all the time.

Starlight smiled a bit, Rachel seemed very nice. And, for some reason, the last name 'Humes' seemed familliar.. she must have seen it somewhere, and it stuck in her head, Whatever.. She thought. Stars smile grew bigger when Rachel asked her if she would like to go get something to drink with her, because they were going to be in the same dorm. That was were she had seen the name before ! They were in the same dorm. Of course... Well, it was good enough for Star. Maybe she might just have some friends at this school, and not be a loner. She was almost tempted to ask why would anyone want to hang out with her, but she didn't. She couldn't, her parents wouldn't let her get out of the schol if anything happened, and she couldn't make any friends.
Um.. Sure. That'd be nice. She said, after a few seconds, nodding. It would be, she might get to know her way around town, and make a friend at the same time. She knew she didn't need that much more for clothes, maybe a new pair of high tops, but that was all she could think of. She just hoped that her time here woul dbe better than the hundreds of things she had imagined, which had mostly all ended horribly. Star and her over active imagination. Just let me pay for this and I'm done. She said, waiting a second before walking over to the counter to pay for all of her clothes. She put everything on the counter, and pulled out her wallet from her purse, to pay. Her father gave her so much money every month to buy new clothes and books, and things that she wanted.
